State of Emergency Declared March 30 due to Significant Ice Storm

The City of Orillia has declared a State of Emergency under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act due to the severe and escalating impacts of the ongoing ice storm affecting the region. The declaration was made by Coun. Tim Lauer, Alternate Head of Council, in consultation with the City’s Emergency Management Team and Emergency Control Group at 7 a.m.

Conditions are evolving rapidly, and service statuses may change with little notice. The City will continue to monitor storm impacts and provide updates on facility status, road conditions, and municipal services through orillia.ca and the City’s social media channels.

Freezing Rain Warning in Effect - Significant Ice Storm Expected (March 28 to 31, 2025)

Environment Canada has issued a Freezing Rain Warning for Orillia.  A significant ice storm is expected from Friday, March 28 to Monday, March 31, 2025. This includes prolonged period of freezing rain; significant ice accretion (10 to 20 mm, with amounts in excess of 25 mm) possible; widespread power outages; icy and slippery conditions, and significant precipitation possible, which may lead to localized flooding.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates through Environment Canada, local news outlets and radio stations, follow the City on social media, and sign up for alerts through Alertable to stay informed.
